Why we started Timberbrook
Tyler and I started Timberbrook Builders in central Iowa because we kept running into the same problem: builders who prioritize speed and margin over quality and longevity.
Tyler's been in construction for 15 years. He's worked commercial and residential. He's framed, roofed, finished basements, built additions. And he's been called in to fix what other contractors leave behind when they rush through a job or cut corners to save a few hundred dollars.
The numbers back up what Tyler saw on job sites. Construction and demolition waste filled U.S. landfills with 145 million tons of material in 2018. Up to 30% of materials delivered to a job site end up as waste. Builders frame houses on 16-inch centers because "that's how it's always been done," even though 24-inch spacing works just as well and uses less lumber. They bid low to win contracts, then squeeze subcontractors so hard that quality suffers.
We didn't want to run that kind of business.
What Timberbrook stands for
We're a small, husband-and-wife operation. Tyler leads the builds and day-to-day operatinos. I handle design, marketing, and administration of the business. We don't take on more projects than we can handle well. That's intentional.
Our work is guided by three principles.
Quality
We build homes that last. That means choosing materials based on performance, not just price. It means planning carefully so we're not making expensive fixes mid-build. It means framing walls square, sealing the building envelope properly, and using fasteners that won't rust out in five years.
Tyler's standard is simple: would this hold up if it were our own house? If the answer is no, we don't do it.
Sustainability
Buildings account for 39% of U.S. energy consumption. A well-insulated, airtight home in central Iowa can cut heating and cooling costs by 30% or more compared to a poorly sealed house. That's not just good for the planet. It's good for your utility bills.
We also think about waste. We catalog scrap materials and reuse them on other projects instead of filling dumpsters. We plan cuts carefully to minimize offcuts. We use advanced framing techniques that reduce lumber use without compromising strength. These aren't big, dramatic changes. They're small decisions made consistently across every project.
People first
Homes have a huge impact on the people who live in them. A poorly designed addition can make a house harder to live in, not easier. A rushed remodel can leave you with a kitchen that looks fine but doesn't function the way you actually cook.
We design around how you'll actually use the space. We ask questions about your routines, your family, what's frustrating about your current setup. Then we build to solve those problems, not just add square footage.
What this means for you
When you work with Timberbrook, you work with us. You're not handed off to a crew you've never met. You're not getting cookie-cutter plans with your name swapped in. You're working directly with Tyler and Alicia to build something that fits your life.
We're slower than volume builders because we don't cut corners. We're more expensive than the lowest bid because we pay our subcontractors fairly and use quality materials. And we're transparent about all of it.
